Hoi An translates as “peaceful meeting place” and on this gentle walking tour you can enjoy this sense of peace whilst wandering the ancient streets, admiring the beautifully preserved wooden houses and shops, many with balconies or terraces and adorned with colorful climbing plants.
ITINERARY
This private tour gives great flexibility and choice of schedule allowing you to help plan the order of your walk. The timing is also flexible but note that the latest time to leave the Resort should be 2pm/2.30pm as the major sights close at 5pm. Highlights include: The Japanese covered bridge, which is the town’s iconic symbol. It was built originally to link the Japanese and Chinese communities, who lived either side of a stream. It is solidly constructed of wood with understated ornamentation and guarded at each end by a pair of statues, with monkeys on one end and the other a pair of dogs.
We visit one of Hoi An’s five Assembly Halls. These intricate buildings are where the merchants would gather to meet and conduct business. Each has an ornate entrance gate leading to a courtyard and temple shrines One ancient house. Hoi An’s ancient houses date from the 17th-18th centuries. They were built mainly as grand homes for Chinese merchants and their families. A number of these properties have been preserved to retain their original style and character.A choice of visiting one of Hoi An’s three museums or watch a live performance of traditional Vietnamese folk music and dance at the Hoi An Traditional Art Performance House.Visit the Handicraft Workshop housed in a 200-year old Chinese trading house. Learn about, and watch artisans making some of the town’s traditional handicrafts such as Hoi An’s famous lanterns or embroidery.At the end of the tour you may wish to either stay in town or walk back to the Resort.
